Sweet Tings Cakery started with a dream and a bag of flour. Samantha Jones, founder of STC, is a registered nurse who turned her stress reliever into a self-made business. Baking and designing cakes has always been an escape from her nine to five and three teenage daughters.
Jones started posting pictures of her baked goods on Facebook and all of friends went crazy asking her to bake them cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Her stress reliever became an instant hit.
Jones’s latest project was to create a birthday cake for a 7 -year-old girl. The birthday girl’s mother told Jones that she is obsessed with Hello Kitty. Jones instantly started sketching cakes that looked like the famous cat. Once she had her sketch, she began baking the cakes that she needed. As she was finishing up the cakes, I grabbed my camera and started capturing the artist at work. She was a little hesitant about me taking pictures because her kitchen was “too messy” but I thought that it added more character to the photos, it showed her working under pressure. I also suggested that the photos would be a great addition to her website, which is under construction. The photos give people an inside look at how her ideas come to life.
Capturing the pictures was a tedious task. I tried to take the pictures at the perfect angle so her hands or body would not be shown but that was too hard because baking is a hands on project. Having the vision and patience to create almost anything that you want from flour, butter and fondant is beautiful.

This cake is gorgeous!
